This calendar celebrates the cyanotypes of Anna Atkins, a British botanist, often considered the first person to publish a book of photographs. Cyanotype uses the sun to expose treated paper. In Anna’s case, she documented the algae and seaweeds of the English coast in a series of books published between 1843-1853.
These cyanotype images from Photographs of British algae : cyanotype impressions are free for reuse from the New York Public Library, and are available for further study on their fantastic digital collections site: digitalcollections.nypl.org
